Recently I decided I needed another hat. I own a couple of Made in Canada hats including a Khaki T3 from 2006. I wanted a hat that I could wear while being outside and doing chores and such and not be worried about getting it messy. My khaki T3 seemed to easy to mess up, and now that some Tilley's are being made in China, that really convinced me that I "needed" another Tilley to be a beater so I could keep my made in Canada T3 in good shape.
I did some research on Youtube and learned about the T3 Wanderer. I decided that would be an option for me. It already comes pre-beaten. I liked the look of the version with the square brown tag in the back, but was disappointed to learn they don't make them that way anymore and in fact now make them in China.
I decided to order a selection of hats off of Amazon. First, I ordered a T3 Wanderer in Olive. I figured the Olive would hide minor stains, squished bugs, dirt, etc.
The second hat I ordered was a standard T3 in Olive. Same logic on the color choice but I was thinking maybe do the breaking in myself.
The third hat I ordered was a T3 Wanderer in Khaki. During my research, it appeared this hat in Khaki actually looks darker than my old Khaki hat. It appears to be light gray rather than what I consider khaki.
When all the hats came in I made a few observations. First, the standard Olive T3 was made in China even though the Amazon listing stated it was made in Canada. I decided that I wasn't sold on the look of brass on the Olive standard T3. Brass goes better with khaki in my opinion.
Second, the khaki T3 Wanderer was made in China. The khaki color was more of a light gray and I thought the black accents looked pretty good. This hat could have been a keeper.
However, the Olive T3 Wanderer turned out to be a made in Canada model. The inner tag had the code 0222. It also has the square logo in the back rather than the new logo tags on the side. This was the hat I was hoping for but did not think I could get anymore, so obviously this is the one I decided to keep and is now my new daily driver.
I considered keeping one or both of the other hats, but I returned the other two.
That is all for my rambling tale. Good luck in your own hunts.
