This popped up on the ‘bay for too little and I am incorrigeable so… This 1987-8 T1 has a tag reading 6 3/4 but note the adjustment tab w Velcro on the rear portion of the hat band. I guess I will assume that one can accommodate sizes even smaller than 6 3/4 with the tab. (Looking at the design, I am wanting to adapt something like this to add a forehead-oriented sweat absorbing bolster to a few of my looser Tilleys.) Anyway, i was not aware of this feature for the smallest Tilley until now, but apparently this was a thing.

Ok that is cool. I'm sure I have seen something that Tilley sold that sticks in the inside, but I don't think it was velcro.
I also think that the kids Tilley hats have built in adjustments.
But I have never seen this on an adult hat. Maybe it was a special custom order.

Recall that the Tilley Winter Hats did come equipped with a soft spacer of sorts, secured by Velcro, that was designed to accommodate for the sizing differences that occurred when deploying the ear and forehead flaps. Reminds me of that. I have been focusing on very small Tilley hats from late 80’s and I’m not seeing any adjustability on any hats larger than 6 3/4 size. I have seen several other examples of this feature on several other size 6 3/4 Tilleys and, I think, that was the smallest standard size offering for adults in the Tilley line. Possibly, Tilley felt the need to make their smallest hat available to adults with even smaller heads. (Or perhaps mature children with tiny heads. ) All that said, this is definitely a standard feature for Tilley’s smallest adult hats for some period of time and, not a field modification by a hat owner.
