So I decided to give this one a dye job. After a few wears here on the blazing beach last week with decent sweating, it became clear that this was a hat that would be yellowing badly. Additionally, the vast expanse of white under brim actually served to blind me a few times. The main reason I got this beat up old T2 was to try out the giant brim and experiment with it, so… a dye job! I read somewhere that the most UV blocking color was blue, so I figured to start there but I wanted a dark hue and was concerned that too pale a blue would render this hat even more feminine than it already seems. After selecting Procion reactive dyes, I got a sampler set and used a TB of medium blue, a tsp of cobalt blue and a random splat of jet black, added half way through when the dye still looked too bright. I had a GF in college used to make tie dyes for Dead shows and I remember it as an unholy mess, but this was surprisingly easy. I will post a pic of the finished product once it’s finally all rinsed out and dried, tomorrow.

I will start a new thread for the dye exposition, but to complete this convo, here is a photo of the newly dyed hat. Attachments:

I will start a new thread for the dye exposition, but to complete this convo, here is a photo of the newly dyed hat. That dye job gives the hat a whole new life!!! I would think that with every wash it would start to get lighter and lighter. Then another dip in the dye bucket could add the color back. I really like the result.
